Low Vision and Vision Rehabilitation

 

 

 

Dr. Carmela Ongsiako practices at the American Eye Center, and at the Makati Medical Center.  She graduated from Ateneo de Manila University, and obtained her medical degree from Far Eastern University Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation.  She then underwent training in Ophthalmology at the Makati Medical Center and sub-specialized in Low Vision and Vision Rehabilitation at the Royal Blind Society, and Vision Australia Foundation in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia.  She joined the American Eye Center as a low vision specialist in 2009.

Presently, she is the head of the Low Vision and Vision Rehabilitation subspecialty at the Makati Medical Center.  She is currently a member of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology, the Philippine Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.   She is also a member of the Evidenced Based Interest Group in Ophthalmology and a member of the faculty as a small group discussion facilitator at the Ateneo de Manila School of Medicine and Public Health

To provide information and raise awareness on Low Vision and Vision Rehabilitation, she created a website entitled REINVENTING VISION at www.lowvisionmanila.com.
